Finding Alsace: Visit to Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg & La Montagne des Singes

On November 6th we went on a trip to the beautiful Haut-Koenigsbourg castle and the Montagne des Singes (Monkey Mountain).

We first visited the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle in the Vosges, one of the most famous and most visited castle in Alsace and all of France. The castle was first built in the middle ages and used until the Thirty Year’s war, when it was abandoned. In 1900 it was rebuilt by German emperor Wilhelm II as a museum of the age of chivalry. Today, we could see how the castle evolved over the ages and learn about the live in medieval times. Plus, we got one of the best views in Alsace.

After visiting Haut-Koenigsbourg we checked out the Montagne des Singes (Monkey Mountain) in Kintzheim. In the park with over 200 Barbary macaques the monkeys roam freely in the 60 acre large woodland, and we could observe them playing, eating and sleeping.
