Finding Alsace: Hike to 3 castles of Ribeauvillé

Last Saturday (07.05.) the latest event in our Finding Alsace series took place: The hike to the three castles of Ribeauvillé.

We started in the late morning by taking the train from Strasbourg to Selestat, from where there is a direct bus to Ribeauvillé. Once in Ribeauvillé we took a short stroll through the historic city center, but not to long, because we had quite some climb ahead of us. The ascent to the fist castle ruin “Haut Ribeaupierre” took roughly an hour from Ribeauville. Spring showed its most beautiful side on the way up, and on the top we were rewarded by a mesmerizing view.

After exploring the castle ruins and a short break we descended to the second castle, the ruins of “Saint-Ulrich”. Unfortunately the castle was closed for visitors, so after an extended lunch break we immediately went to the third castle “Girsberg”. There we took some amazing drone shots (see below).

Finally we went back down to Ribeauvillé. Because we still had some time until the bus left we indulged in one of the cities most popular activities: a wine tasting. After trying five different types of white wine our adventure ended with a sprint back to the bus. Exhausted, but happy and many memories richer we arrived back in Strasbourg in the late afternoon.
